Mar 3, 2010Today Nokia and T-Mobile USA introduced the Nuron 5230, an S60 5th Edition touch phone that is the first to bring Ovi Maps with turn-by-turn directions to the U.S. The Nuron has quad-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band 1700/2100 3.6Mbps HSDPA radios, as well as Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and FM.
Aug 25, 2009Nokia today announced the 5230, a relatively affordable phone with a large finger-touch display. The phone is extremely similar to the 5800 XpressMusic, but steps down to a 2-megapixel camera (from 3) and removes Wi-Fi to reach a 149 Euro price point.
Nokia have announced their latest touchscreen handset, the Nokia 5230, a \"competitively priced\" media device. The 5230 lacks the WiFi and true GPS of its bigger touchscreen siblings, but has the same S60 5th Edition OS, A-GPS and Ovi apps integration; it also has the social networking widgets that have proved so popular.Video demo after the cut
Nokia 5230 Review: The Nokia 5230 was released at the end of 2009. By this time, much had happened in the phone world: Samsung, Apple and HTC were in the ascendancy with their touchscreen handsets and at the top-end Nokia was playing catch-up.
The resistive touch screen was unchanged, and still difficult to use relative to multi-touch. The Nokia 5800 came with a built-in stylus on the rear cover to make things easier. For some reason, this was not reproduced on the Nokia 5230.
He would often comment on the type of phone I had. I have a Nokia 5230 touch smart phone which I use to check emails, Facebook and surf the net. His use of the phone was limited to texting (which was not very often) and calling. I had often urged him to get an email address but he always said he did not need it. I wonder how different it would have been for him if he had tried out these new technologies.
The price war in the touch screen mobile phone market in India has just begun. While Samsung has created a stir with Corby, which it launched a few weeks ago, Nokia is planning to catch up fast with the 5230 and 5530 models.
But Samsung may not have a free run for long. Nokia, the country's largest mobile phone manufacturer, will shortly launch Nokia 5230 (Rs 10,000) and Nokia 5530 XpressMusic (Rs 12,559). Vipul Sabharwal, sales director of Nokia India, says, \"Nokia is focused on taking the touch experience to the masses by launching products at competitive prices\". 153554b96e
